Excellent.  We (the PVFS developers) should try to figure out how to 
better detect this sort of thing -- this isn't the first time we've run 
into this sort of problem.

Glad things are working for you!  Hopefully we'll have a new 1.6.3 release 
out in the next week or two that will have all these patches integrated.
