Sorry for the long delay in getting back to you...
I've tried to recreate this problem on a cluster here with pvfs-test
(16 io servers, 64 clients, 64k blocksize, 20 iterations) and cannot
see any significant difference in performance.
It might well be that something changed in the pvfs-kernel code, but
that is harder for me to test.
