These protocol changes affect 32-bit clients too.  Newly compiled
clients will not talk to old servers and vice versa.  No change to
on-disk storage layout.

I think the release process bumps the protocol version so this mismatch
will be caught before any segv happens in the production world.  CVS
users had better restart their servers, however.
