This seems pretty reasonable.  We still have a few cases where we need
'kmod_prefix', though (mostly for nightly tests so we don't wack a
production pvfs2.ko).  No one would want to set both variables, so
while KMOD_DIR looks kind of funny now, I think it's going to do the
right thing for packagers, testers, and users.
