Hi Andrew
Even with these config files, I'm unable to reproduce this problem
with either pvfs2-1.2.0 or CVS.  

It's great that pvfs2-1.1.0 works for you.  If you are up for it, can
you test with the CVS version of PVFS2 (which will hopefully soon be
pvfs2-1.3.0) and let me know if you still see the problem?
