PVFS2 has full 64bit processor support.  We are currently running 
AMD64/PPC64 in a mixed environment without any problems at my location.

Right now, I believe all kernels < 2.6.18 are in working order.  Someone 
please correct me if I'm wrong in saying that.

We are using both GigE and IB interconnects, though primarily IB for our 
research.  We've had much success with the IB hardware, being able to 
achieve 1+GByte/sec bandwidths after fine tuning for our apps.  I'd 
personally recommend the IB hardware, but really its dependent on your 
apps, whether or not you'll be able to use this type of bandwidth, while 
also considering the cost..
