Sorry, I should have read further before posting.  The two-dimensional
stripe should do what I need.  I recall now that I tried this before, but
without the kernel module building, I could not do setfattr to configure
this distribution.  Plus there were the problems I had with MPICH2.  I'll
see if I can get any further now.
