[Pvfs2-users] OrangeFS on nodes with different storage space capacities.

Hello,

I'm setting up OrangeFS-2.8.5 on a small cluster with 5 nodes:
4 of them have an equal storage space available (let note it as 1S)
and one node has a double size storage space available (2S).

So I have 6S available, but 2S on a single node. What will be the best
way to use this extra space for a data storage? As far as I
understand, simple strip data distribution mode will just uniformly
place all data and extra 1S space will never be used. Variable stripe
will not help either, because of round-robin placement of the data
groups.

Basic distribution should help (though, I haven't tested this), but
this will negate striping and will hurt I/O performance badly.

The only solution I see is to setup two pvfs2-servers on 2S-capable
system. But this setup will be somewhat troublesome and as far as I
understand from documentation is not recommended.

Any ideas how to solve this better? Hardware modifications are out of
question.

Best regards,
Andrew Savchenko
